32 illegal migrants from Bangladesh arrested in Nagpur

In a second major operation against illegal migrants in the city, the police on Tuesday arrested 32 Bangladeshis who were illegally residing here.

Out of the total arrested, during the raids conducted in the wee hours, 15 were men, nine women while rest of them are children, DIG (Region) Prabhat Kumar said.

Some of the arrested persons have been staying in Nagpur for as long as ten years now and have ration cards, driving licences. Names of two of them also figure in the voters' lists, he said.

On interrogation, as of now, as many as 13 people have admitted to their Bangladeshi nationality, Kumar said.

However, some of them have claimed to be residents of 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. Police are verifying their claims, he said adding if need be all necessary action including deporting them to their country will be taken.

These illegal immigrants are mainly engaged in menial jobs.

The raids were conducted in Jaripatka, Panchpaloi, Tehsil, Gittikhadan and Lakadganj areas of the city.

Around six months back over 100 persons from Bangladesh were arrested for illegally staying in the city.
